James Gibson was born about 1774 in Scotland.

He married Helen Little on June 12, 1801 at Applegarth, Dumfries-Shire, Scotland.

George Gibson (1803),
Jane Gibson (1808),
Jean Gibson (1808),
James Gibson (1810),
John Gibson (1811),
Peter Purvis Gibson (1818, married Maria Louisa Thorne), and
William Larue Gibson (1820).

On April 18, 1821, James petitioned because his land in Yonge was damaged by overflowing water from the Mill Dam.
